28 October Property Rights There was intra-party violence between MDC-T party members at Maha shops in ward 7, Goromonzi South when two members of MDC-T fought over the ownership of Mara farm. The conflict was between Milton Bere, the ward 7 MDCT shadow councilor and Greenbet Zvanyanya Danger, former Member of Parliament for Goromonzi South. Bere in the company of Davison Chamisa, Oneday Chimedza and Taurai Zvapera invaded Danger’s office at Maha shops claiming ownership of the office and Mara farm. Bere is said to have assaulted Danger’s supporters including his secretary. Ruwa police intervened and this led to the brief detention of Chamisa who was released without charge. Mashonaland West The major highlights for the province was the Norton by-election that was marked with alarming violence. The campaign period had cases of violations to freedom of association and expression being perpetrated by members of the ruling party against supporters of independent candidate Temba Mliswa. Date HR Violated Provincial highlights 3 October Right to Personal Security A member of the Norton community and war veteran, Cde Simon Chikonzo, had his vehicle stoned by two suspected Zanu PF youths as he was approaching his residence at Nyagore Farm around 7pm. He reported the matter to Norton local police (RRB No: 2887551) the following day. 8 October Right to personal security In Norton, eighteen-year-old Natasha Nyikadzino was allegedly abducted from her home when a group of Zanu PF youths led by Sheila Mabasa failed to locate her mother Ronika Nyikadzino who was on Mliswa’s campaign team. Natasha was beaten, harassed and made to wear a Zanu PF t-shirt before she was released. Freedom of Association 9 October Right to personal security A Zanu PF youth, *Tawanda Gumbo, is alleged to have been assaulted by youths that were supporting Temba Mliswa ahead of the Norton by-election. 19
