Resist, Reject and Report Violence, #RRRV2023
In light of the above situation, the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) recommends that the
government of Zimbabwe and the ruling party, Zanu PF, take the following steps ahead
of the 2023 elections to ensure that fear is effectively dismantled within communities in
the country:
Ensure that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is accountable for any acts of
violence and arrests of opposition supporters, and that perpetrators are held to
account and punished in accordance with the law.
Create a clear process for independent investigation of all allegations of human
rights violations, such as police brutality and political arrests, and ensure that
victims are provided with adequate remedies.
Establish a national dialogue involving all political parties, civil society organizations,
and other stakeholders to create an environment of trust and understanding ahead
of the 2023 elections.
Reform the security sector, particularly the police and military, to ensure that they
are non-partisan and professional in their approach to the elections.
Take measures to ensure freedom of expression, assembly, and association,
including the right to hold peaceful protests without fear of reprisal or arrest.
Adopt a zero-tolerance approach to hate speech and incitement of violence by
political leaders.
