ZPP joined the world in condemning the brutal assassination of Advocate Thulani
Maseko, a prominent human rights lawyer and a fearless fighter for democracy and
social justice, shot at his home in Eswatini on 21 January. Maseko was persecuted many
times for his unwavering defence of human rights through repeated arrests, charges
and pretrial detentions for speaking against human rights violations by the monarchy.
Despite the persecution, he remained steadfast and leading from the front defending
the rights of others. ZPP calls on the Eswatini government to conduct a thorough
investigation to ensure that those responsible for his assassination are brought to
justice. ZPP applauds SADC for taking a stand on the matter and impressing on the
monarchy in Eswatini that an independent investigation be conducted. ZPP sends its
heartfelt condolences to the Maseko family and friends. May His Soul Rest in Eternal
Peace.
