Forever Associate Zimbabwe
Citizens reported that Zanu PF
affiliate organisation FAZ was forcing
people to register their names with
them for unknown reasons. Citizens
were told to visit the FAZ desk, which
was mounted 300 metres away from
the polling station, before and after
casting their votes. This was most
prevalent in Mashonaland East,
Mashonaland Central, Matabeleland,
Midlands and some parts of
Mashonaland West. In Gwanda North
ward 4 it was noted that FAZ member
Dennis Moyo was telling citizens that
they needed to tabulate results with
ZEC so that Zanu PF wins elections. In
Bikita East ward 18, Jealous Nyaunzvi is
reported to have threatened citizens
that failed to visit the FAZ desk with
assault.

Insights into the Post-Election Environment
The post-election environment was unstable characterised by an increase in cases of political
violence targeting perceived opposition supporters by Zanu PF supporters and traditional leaders.
Most of the victims mapped were Citizens Coalition for Change candidates and polling agents. A
case on the right to personal security was reported in ward 11, Buhera South on 23 August. It is
alleged that the CCC aspiring councillor and a male election agent were attacked by suspected
Zanu PF supporters on 23 August on their way to a polling station where voting was in progress.
The duo was reportedly abducted and taken to a secluded place where they were brutally
assaulted and left in a disoriented state. In Mutasa Central CCC polling agents were reportedly
displaced by alleged Zanu PF youths led by ward 22 Councillor only identified as Cleopas. Reports
indicate that the CCC activists received death threats which forced them to abandon their homes
to live in nearby mountains in fear of their lives. It is said that about three CCC activists who were
deployed as polling agents at Mwoyoweshumba Polling station (ward 19) were displaced on 31
August 2023.
