The victim narrated that he was forced to evacuate his mother, spouse and children when the hut was set on fire. The victim lost food and kitchen utensils worth approximately USD500. The revival of terror bases was reported in the province in Uzumbamarambapfungwe at Maseka School. On 25 August perceived opposition CCC members were taken from their homes at 3am by Zanu PF youths andFAZ members. The victims (whose identities are protected) were taken to a base where they were harassed and told that they will be targeted again after the announcement of the Presidential election results. Manicaland Province Arson was reported in Buhera South on 25 August. Suspected Zanu PF supporters allegedly torched a house belonging to a CCC activist. In other reports, in Mutasa Central, Chief Mutasa summoned headmen and village heads in wards 11, 12, 14 and 15 to an urgent meeting convened at Sadziwa business Centre on 13 August. Each village head was allegedly assigned to bring their subordinates. Transport was provided for by Zanu PF parliamentary candidate, Mr Benza of Herentals Group of Colleges. At the meeting Chief Mutasa said, “President Mnangagwa is always asking him why the people of Mutasa reject him in polls''. Chief Mutasa said if Zanu PF lost in Mutasa he would institute an investigation into the cause of the defeat starting at the village level, to the village head up to district level. He threatened unspecified action on those who would be blamed. The Chief singled out Bonda Mission hospital and school staff as being notorious for supporting the opposition. He also informed traditional leaders that some people with motorbikes were going to be deployed across Mutasa District to deal with traitors. after the following day, some ruling party activists allegedly visited Bonda Mission where they threatened hospital and school staff with violence. A case on the right to personal security was reported on 18 August at Ndeudze Primary school in ward 4 (Nhedziwa) Chimanimani West. It is alleged that Chief Mutambara (Ronald Mutambara) summoned all village heads under his jurisdiction to an urgent meeting addressed by Zanu PF Chimanimani District Coordinating Committee chairperson Brighton Muchuwa and other high ranking party officials. The Chief reportedly instructed village heads to advise their subjects that Zanu PF was the only party he knew and the party to be voted for. He went on to say that if the said party lost the elections, there was going to be war. Mutambara went on to say that names of opposition members must be kept with their village heads. Page 15
