Provincial Highlights Category of incident Assault Discrimination MDP Intimidation/harassment June 2017 1 1 1 1 May 2017 1 2 0 2 Threat level: Low On 7 June Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and municipal police were forcibly removing vendors and commuter omnibus operators from undesignated areas in the Bulawayo city centre. It is alleged that the officers were violent towards vendors while confiscating their wares. *Muriel Choto’s clothing was torn when police officers roughed her up as they were trying to take away her goods. Threat level: Low It is alleged that carpenters were ordered to close business at Glenview complex and attend the burial of former Deputy President of the Senate, Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu, at the National Heroes Acre on 3 June. Reports are that the complex chairperson Mr Dumisani Chipango and Zanu PF Harare youth provincial committee member Doubt Mhike ordered the closure of the complex that is located in Glenview North ward 30. It was also reported that they both threatened to evict carpenters from the complex if they defied the order. Kuwadzana residents that joined Kuwadzana Housing Association Trust (KHAT) were each allegedly told to bring four people who will become Zanu PF cell members and who should also vote for Zanu PF in 2018. Zanu PF chairperson, Langton Mhaka, is said to have made this announcement while he was addressing residents at a meeting organized by KHAT on 6 June in phase 6 ward 38. The residents were told that their votes would count as a token of appreciation to Member of Parliament Betty Kaseke and President Robert Mugabe for availing opportunities for them to get land. Those that fail to mobilise four people were told that they would be withdrawn from the association. The headmaster said the students will not be allowed in the school premises until they paid their school fees for the second academic term in full. ‘O’ Level candidates *Malcom Ncube and *Jason Nyoni were among the students that were turned away. On 18 June, in Ward 23, Chitungwiza Zanu PF youths allegedly assaulted MDC-T youths. The MDC-T youths were meeting at the home of Chitungwiza Deputy Organising Secretary of the Women’s Assembly, *Melody Kadenge when they were attacked.
