Harare
Mashonaland East
In Harare, a 19-year-old female working
for a non-governmental organisation was
abducted and sexually assaulted near
Avenues
Clinic,
by
unknown
perpetrators. The victim was later
dumped in the Western suburbs of
Harare. The case was reported to the
police, but no arrests have been made.
Intimidation was reported during a
residents meeting in Kuwadzana West,
where
ZANU
PF
Chairperson
Chinhengo warned residents that if they
do not attend ruling party meetings, they
risk losing their residential stands. In
Epworth South a ZANU PF member was
seen
parading
a
newly
issued
Mozambican national identity card and
claimed he was issued the ID for him to
vote in the scheduled elections in
Mozambique. Suspected members of
FAZ and ZANU PF activists physically
clashed with CCC supporters at a polling
station in Harare east during the
National Assembly by-elections for
Harare
East
Constituency.
The
Zimbabwe Republic Police has been
conducting raids on money changers in
Harare Central following the Reserve
Bank's introduction of the Zimbabwe
Gold (ZiG) currency. In Harare Central
Business District, there were reports of
chaotic street fights between police and
money changers resulting in some
injuries and several arrests.
In Ward 14 of Wedza North, Mashonaland
East, a ZANU PF Chairperson identified
as Mutarisi was recorded inappropriately
instructing children to chant the ruling
party’s slogans in the full glare of the
community.
The
incident
happened
during
the
celebrations
of
the
Independence Day at Shaka Business
centre. Mutarisi invited children and
instructed them to chant the slogans and
sing the party’s songs. The incident
exposes
children
to
inappropriate
circumstances that violate provisions in
Section 19 of the Constitution, which
provides that the state must adopt
measures and policies that protect
children from any form of abuse or
maltreatment. In Macheke community, a
former employee at the National Railways
of Zimbabwe, was arbitrarily evicted from
the parastatal’s house by security details
who claimed to be assigned by NRZ
management. The eviction raised was not
prescribed by a court order. ZRP
conducted
raids
targeting
money
changers in Murehwa North leading to
injuries of some money changers and
vendors. In Chikomba East, at Chirasauta
Business centre, Headman Samshura
threatened villagers with denial of food
aid after only 4 people out of 65
contributed towards Independence Day
celebrations. The Headman was working
under
instruction
from
ZANU
PF
Councillor Lawrence Watamba.
