Police brutality continued to be recorded in the province under the cover of
enforcement of the law. One case of such a nature was recorded where a man who
tried to resist arrest was ultimately beaten by police officers. This was after the
cabinet announcement on the easing of wearing facemasks. This happened at a time
when many citizens were still not aware of the easing of the regulation relating to
facemasks. However, instead of police officers enforcing the arrest according to the
law, they used unwarranted force to deal with the issue.
The economic problems and challenges faced by citizens have impacted their socioeconomic livelihoods. The BCC has disconnected water for some citizens who have
failed to pay their water bills on time. Many citizens are now victims of water cuts
and policy inconsistency as they are charged in both RTGS and USD which makes it
hard for them to clear the debt. A violation of the right to water was recorded at
Entumbane Section C numbers as it was noted that Bulawayo City Council
disconnected water for a household for failing to pay the accrued debt.
