The Department of Social Services distributed maize at the District Development Fund (DDF)
depot in Marondera West and for the first time people were required to pay for transportation of
the food. To get 50kg of maize each person had to pay $1 for transport. From the 130 people
who were supposed to benefit only ten managed to pay and those that failed did not receive
their allocation. It was not clear how much the private transporter had charged for transport.
