Mashonaland Central Province
There was an increase in targeting of opposition CCC supporters by suspected Zanu PF activists
and traditional leaders. It is alleged that two CCC activists one of whom was the aspiring ward
29 Councillor, were detained by Zanu PF youths at Mvurwi country club during a polling station
mapping exercise on 20 August in Mazowe North Mvurwi in ward 29. The perpetrators reportedly
took them to a secluded place where they interrogated them to disclose all CCC plans ahead of
polling day. The perpetrators confiscated their phones before assaulting them. The incident was
reported at Mvurwi police station (RRB562214). On 24 August, a day after the 2023 harmonised
elections, suspected Zanu PF activists reportedly threw a petrol bomb at the home of the CCC
aspiring Councillor in Bindura North Ward 12. The petrol bomb injured a minor who was taken to
Bindura General Hospital for treatment. The victim suspects their rivals in Zanu PF. In ward 4,
Mazowe North at Mukunyadzi village in Chiweshe rural, suspected Zanu PF supporters torched a
house belonging to a CCC activist on 24 August. The victim lost property including clothes and
identity documents. On polling day, a CCC activist of Chidziva farm compound in Mazowe North
was threatened with eviction by Zanu PF supporters led by their cell structure chairperson Mr
Handiseni Chatonda. It is said that the perpetrators issued threats to evict him from his village
compound for supporting Chamisa.
Harare Province
Harare recorded cases associated with civil political rights violations. Most of the cases were
reported on polling day. A majority of polling stations around the city experienced a delay in
delivery of ballot papers for local authority candidates from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission
on August 23. The situation was exacerbated with many people finding their names missing on
the voters roll. In ward 5, Harare Central at Louis Mount-Batten primary school *L Smaily‘s name
was missing from the voters roll. There were 2 polling stations at the school (A and B) but still the
victim failed to establish their name on the voter’s roll. The victim’s registration slip confirmed
that he was registered at Louis Mount-Batten primary school however, a presiding officer
assigned him to check with the ward command centre at Allan Wilson High School. ZPP recorded
cases of violence targeting citizens and opposition CCC members pre and post elections;with
some of the incidents implicating the Zimbabwe Republic Police and Zanu PF supporters.
