13 October Freedom of Expression Archbold Elias Madida, a student at Midlands State University, Zvishavane campus was detained for three hours by police for mobilising university students to take part in a demonstration against fees hikes and corruption. Zimbabwe National Students Union (Zinasu) president, Alister Pfumi, confirmed that Madida was called by officers from Police Internal Security Intelligence (PISI) and instructed not to mobilise students for the demonstration at the Zvishavane campus. As the demonstration was about to start at 10am Madida was picked up by police officers and detained at a local police station. He was released with no charge. 22 October Freedom of Association Elias Bvumbanyama, Zanu PF chairperson for ward 5 Gokwe Chireya, allegedly threatened villagers with unspecified action should they fail to vote Zanu PF into power in 2018. Bvumbanyama ordered the local councillor, Marongwe, to list all suspected MDC-T members and hand over the names to him. 22 October Freedom of Association Trymore Matele was harassed and victimised by Mufaro Bushe, a Zanu PF supporter after he refused to attend a Zanu PF restructuring meeting where Matele was earmarked for the youth chairperson’s post in Mtemba village ward 29 Mberengwa South. 24 October Freedom of Association Councillor Wilson Chimushonga of Zanu PF called for a meeting at the ward centre at Muchakata Business Centre ward 11 in Chiundura and specifically indicated that he wanted Zanu PF members only and as a result of that, many opposition party members were shut out and failed to register for the government free inputs scheme. 30 October The public hearing that was conducted in Gweru by the Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Portfolio Committee led by Hon Jessie Majome was a success. The meeting did not witness any violent disruptions but community members in attendance were able to peacefully make their contributions. *The names of victims have been changed to protect their identities. 23
